Shop at Drinkle Mall

Drinkle Mall is one of Saskatoon’s best-kept secrets. You will be amazed to discover 16 amazing local shops selling (and doing) things you wont find anywhere else in YXE. This is not your normal mall. On any given day you might grab a coffee and listen to DJ playing at Rag n’ Brew while looking over their inventory of vintage clothing, then wonder over to BAM gallery and watch our downtown artist in residence transform their walls, or take painting lessons at Audra Balion Art Sanctuary. You can get crystals, or tarot reading in a private room at Atlantis 2000 or browse work from a wide selection of amazing local artisans at The Hobnobber. We have locksmiths, goldsmiths, hair stylists, jewelers, tattoo artists and even a shop to fix your cellphone. Our hallways are full, floor to ceiling, with artwork for sale by local emerging artists and there’s even an in depth historic photo exhibit that tells the early history of Saskatoon. Come check us out. It’s a hidden gem downtown.

Our Photo Exhibit

Photo Exhibit: JC Drinkle, from Boom to Bust

Our mall includes an extensive permanent photo exhibit that tells the story of early Saskatoon and J. C. Drinkle, the builder of Drinkle3. Our exhibit is a must-see if you are curious about Saskatoon history and enjoy old photos. It is often featured in walking heritage tours of Saskatoon. The exhibit was made possible in 2007 by a Cultural Capitals grant, through the City of Saskatoon and thanks to Heritage Canada. The exhibit is available to be viewed during business hours in the downstairs mall.

Fun Facts

Our mall stairway landing includes an inlaid “Drinkle No. 3 Building” logo which was replicated based on photos of the original storefront window in the building in 1913. The slate and ivory-coloured tile floor is modeled after the floor of the old MacMillan Building, built on the site of the first Drinkle building which was destroyed by fire in 1925.

Commercial space now available at Drinkle Mall

ARE YOU CONSIDERING STARTING A BUSINESS? Maybe now is your chance. At Drinkle Mall we are offering half-price rent for a year for selected businesses when you sign a one-year lease. After that, the rent is just a fraction of what you would pay anywhere else. You would be joining a group of very cool small businesses in one of Saskatoon’s most historic buildings.

WHAT’S THE CATCH?

No catch. We already have many great shops but for our mall to really catch fire we want it full of shops that really bring our Saskatoon culture together. That’s why we are offering this deal. Our goal is to create a symbiosis between all the shops so when customers come to get a tattoo or vintage clothing they will have 18 other related shops to browse that all appeal to their interests.

WHAT KIND OF BUSINESSES QUALIFY?

We are looking for businesses that appeal to those interested in art, culture, crafts, personal services, and fashion. Examples of businesses that would be a great fit are tattoo studios, art studios, services, galleries, craft jewelry, artisan products, hair, massage, beauty, therapy, fitness, coffee shop, screen-print shirts, etc. What is your idea? The sky is the limit.

WHAT NEXT?

If you are not familiar with Drinkle Mall, come check us out and see if it might be a good fit for your idea. If so, schedule a visit with Karen at Hobnobber and she can show you the various spots from the inside. Don’t worry if some spots look too big or small or lack a sink, many of the walls can be modified to make suites larger or smaller. If you see something that might work, call us and let’s talk about your idea.

DrinkleMall is already a hidden treasure in downtown Saskatoon, but we think with the right mix of businesses we can really make it amazing. Bring us your ideas. Maybe you will be a part of it
